What do you do when you have been invited over for dinner at a friends house and you find out that the likely menu includes frozen lasagna?
I was invited over to a friend's house for dinner last week. I could have sworn that when we were originally talking about this we were going to go out to eat and that their kids were going to have a sitter. Then today after a very long ride with this friend I asked what we were doing for dinner and he responded, "Oh, probably frozen lasagna." I could do that here, I have one in the freezer and I don't have to drive across town to eat it. No please, don't go to any trouble, but maybe I can have a side of peanut butter and jelly too?
I feel like they are only having me over because the my wife and kids are out of town. I can feed myself and I don't need the help this badly. I should be glad for the company I suppose, but...come on. I just rode a little over 50 miles today with the guy who invited me to eat with his family. I would figure he would want something more as a reward than a family-size frozen lasagna. I would be glad to bring something in order to help out, seriously.
Maybe he was just joking--I will update this later with what goes down.
UPDATE:
The lasagna was pretty good. So was the garlic bread and salad. They had a very good vinegar dressing that had no oil in it--surprisingly good. The lasagna was from Costco, which was much better than I was expecting when I was told of the menu. I even had seconds. But after burning roughly 3200 calories today on my ride that is not surprising. Nor is the fact that on the way home I eat 3 Krispy Kreme donuts.

Well...I think the answer to what do you do is - be glad they cared enough to ask you over.
Glad you enjoyed the lasagna. I like it alot!
50 miles is unbelievable - Wow!
yeah, that would be the correct way to look at it. I was just looking for a meal out on the one night that I wasn't working this past week. So when the original offer involved going out that seemed perfect. I wasn't expecting them to pay for me or anything. I just wanted a nice meal out with food that I don't normally get.
what a whiney guy I must appear to be...
mostly I am just trying to give DTP a hard time.
DTP? Sorry, I didn't get that. 50 miles! Wow. I'm mostly jealous that you burned 3200 Kcal. I wish I could burn that everyday. I wish I had time. & the frozen lasagna from Costco is pretty tasty. I'm a fan. But I'm also a fan of a nice meal out. I can empathize with your initial concern.
You did sound a little high maintenance, though.
DTP is Dave's new nickname. You might have met him. He is the guy I hitch a ride with when I have gone out to Utah. Solid fellow, except for the fact that he wussed out on doing Vikingman or any other 70.3 tri this year.
Oh, yeah. I think I remember you mentioning that before. Is that the knickname Fish gave him?
Devin, I just found a picture of you about the time that Jack was born. You have really slimmed down! You look good!
