All by myself...

Everyone went to Black Butte Ranch for the weekend. I am here by myself. Bored.

I went with Dave to see The Dark Knight movie at 10:30 PM last night. It was supposed to have been an IMAX screen, but it really didn't seem too much bigger than a regular movie screen. The picture and sound were excellent though. It was a great movie. I got back home at 1:30 in the morning. This was after getting up at 5:30 AM to get going to the triathlon I did yesterday. I couldn't fall asleep until nearly 3AM though for some reason. I will soon post a report about the tri on my other blog, RCMT. I will say that it went very well for the most part. It was my last triathlon until next April Half Ironman distance triathlon in Oceanside California. Frankly, I am not very excited about doing that one. Luckily it is so far away that I don't really have to think much about it yet. The triathlon that I did yesterday was only a sprint, which is 1/4 the length of a Half Ironman. Basically it was fun distance despite the hilly course. The longer ones hurt...a lot...

I was up at 8AM this morning because Ryan's primary teacher called to see if he was coming to church today. Why she had to call at 8AM, or even call at all is a bit odd. I mean she could have called in the days prior or a bit later when people are awake after staying up all night....

What does one do when you are all alone for the weekend after being used to always have people around? I dunno. Maybe I will try and get myself invited over somewhere for dinner. There is some meat in the freezer, I may just pop it on the grill.

Maybe after church I will take a nap....yeah a busy couple of days are ahead of me. I better pace myself.

Eat. That's what I do when I'm bored. Cook something fun, odd, or with so many calories that women return that look of total disgust. Or is it jealousy for not being able to eat the same and not feel completely guilty and fat afterwords.

My recommendation is a pizza from a favorite spot with all the meat. Sometimes its called Meat Lovers or Meat Eaters... whatever, that one. Just make sure that grease drips freely as you pick up a slice.

Wow. Pace yourself buddy. I'm thinking of joining you for that tri. Is it one of those that fills up fast or do you think it's still open? I'll check. Do you think I could pull it off?

I believe spots are still available at the Oceanside 70.3Ironman. It is a half ironman distance by the way. 1.2 miles swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run.

You asked if you can pull it off?

Probably. I would work on getting another bike before you attempted it. Doing 56 miles on that early 80's piece o' crap would be like trying to run the half marathon portion with 5 lbs weights on each shoe. Sure you could do it, but it would not be fun.

I am sure you could do it. The question is, do you WANT to do it. Having done one of these this summer I realize that the worst part about doing that distance is the constant training to build up your strength. The race itself is painful, the swimming really sucks (for me), the bike for me is OK, but the run really puts the hurt on after all that time and energy expended during the first two legs.

If you do it, you have to have a plan. And you have to follow it, both during the race and in training.

I was talking to Fish about this race a couple of days ago and I told him that if I had to decide now I would not do that race. I am not looking forward to training for it again. And the open water swim still scares me. Other than that race, I will only be doing sprint distance races next year. Those are fun.

I hope you do it. Misery loves company! ;) By the way, for some reason completing one of those half ironman distance races, at least the first one is sort of an emotional high. I remember feeling like I wanted to cry I was so overjoyed at finishing and finishing the way I wanted to--despite the horrible conditions.

I understand that the race is really well run and that it a great course. Spendy though. $265 to register. Is it worth it? probably.
