Playlist

On ITunes they have famous and semi-famous people list some of their favorite songs along with a short blurb why they like it. It is interesting to see what people pick. Sometimes I wonder if they are picking songs they like or songs that they want people to think they like, just to make them seem cool.

Anyway, I am not really trying to be cool. Well, maybe just a little bit in a subconscious sort of way. But still I thought it would be fun do put out my own playlist. You can probably find videos of these songs on YouTube or Yahoo Music or you can hear a 30 second sample on ITunes.

These are some of my current favorites with some help from YouTube.com

Bauhaus, Dark Entries (Gotham). This is on the Gotham live album, recording in New York City in the Early 80's I think. This song sort of has goth-punk flavor. It has great energy. It is only 20+ years old, but it really rocks.

Bauhaus, Adrenalin (Walk Away White). This is from their first new album since 1983. I like this song, and it is interesting to see who these guys sound when they are like 50 years old. They still got it.

Beastie Boys, Ch-Check It Out (To the 5 Boroughs). I didn't really appreciate these guys until the mid-90's. Even then I have to be in the right mood. Well, lately I have been in the right mood. I love this song.

Interpol, Pace Is the Trick (Our Love to Admire). Interpol is a band that I can almost always listen to. This song is from their last album which is very good. I think that Interpol is sort of has a bit of Joy Division in them.

Interpol, Roland (Turn On the Bright Lights). This is from the first of their three album. I didn't pick anything from the second one because that has gotten the most airplay. This song also gets me a little pumped up. There is definitely some Joy Division channeled on this song. And yes, I like Joy Division. Punk, or post-punk...whatever, I like this song.

Ladytron, Destroy Everything You Touch (Witching Hour). The rhythm just kind of gets me moving. I don't really know what it is--I just dig this song.

Led Zeppelin, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Early Days). I have this on a compilation. It is a nice and mellow but then Robert Plant throws down around the 2 1/2 minute and mark.

MGMT, Time to Pretend (Oracular Spectacular). I am sure that I will get tired of this song soon. In fact the lyrics are not exactly wonderful. But it is catchy and it is on my Ipod, I have kind of groove to it when it is on.

Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here (Echoes: the Best of Pink Floyd). Just a great song. 'Nuf said.

Pixies, Gouge Away (Doolittle). Frank Black rocks, what else can you say. This song really gets me going. Good song to run to.

Placebo, The Bitter End (Sleeping with Ghosts). I really like all of the Placebo albums. The guys voice is kind of effeminate, but he can occasionally really get going. This is my favorite Placebo song.

Silversun Pickups, Kissing Families (Itunes Live Session). Love this long obviously. It has the old slow fast slow fast thing going for it. One of the only of their songs where their female guitarist (I forget her name) sings as well as the lead singer.

Silversun Pickups, Lazy (Itunes Live Session). I have all of the Pickups stuff, but this Itunes EP is really worth having. It has more energy than the albums. Lazy was on the radio quite a bit for awhile, but this version is worth listening to.

Smashing Pumpkins, Tarantula, (Zeitgeist). This is one of the only two songs worth a darn on the new album. But this song rocks.

Sonic Youth, Kool Thing (Goo). A classic post-punk song.

Tegan and Sara, Relief Next to Me (The Con). Great song. I used to not be especially fond of Tegan and Sara. The voices were sort of annoying. But they grew on me. This is a cool song.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Diamond Sea (Itunes Live EP). Mellow. But if you check out their other stuff than can dish it out pretty harshly too.the video is Cheated Hearts another great song.

Bridget says that this post is all about me and what I like--not so family oriented. Basically, it doesn't fit in with the theme of the blog. And it is long. Well, long posts are fairly frequent so I don't know what else she should expect. As far as the one sided part...do I have to know start a 3rd blog? One for the family, one for cycling and one for everything else? Ugh. That would be too much. Besides, she is welcome and ENCOURAGED to post her anytime. So for now everyone will just have to make due with some occasional more personal oriented type posts. I have fun doing them even if everyone else is either bored, disgusted, or generally apathetic to them. Yes, she is right it doesn't fit in with the blog theme. In fact, it may be weird that a guy my age still likes some of the music I listen to. But, I only feel as old as I am on mornings after a long workout. It can be ugly and painful.

It's okay. You're a member of the fam. and sometimes it's just about the boys and not you, so I think it can be permitted. But it's not my blog...wha'do I know? I wanna hear from Bridget, though! How's the pregnancy coming along?

Because of this post, I bought the Silversun Pickup's album I didn't already have. I most of it a lot.

Steph-Bridget hates posting. The Las Vegas over-under line on the number of posts during the pregnancy is one.

Patrick-When you say "I most of it a lot" I assume you mean that you like most of it a lot. I do love them. The two bands I listen to the most are Interpol, Silversun Pickups, and probably the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I am glad I could help. I have checked out some of the sites you recommended on you blog, by the way.

I mainly listen to music when I am running. Otherwise, if I am using my iPod it is to listen to podcasts of several NPR programs, the Economist, NY Times, and a couple of sports shows. Love my Ipod and the way it has changed the way I listen to music, radio and information.
