When he grows up Ryan wants to be a scientist. But not just any sort of scientists obviously. He wants to study antarctic animals, especially penguins. He wants to travel there via a boat that is an ice breaker.
Just documenting this...we'll see if this changes as time goes on.
Currently he is doing great in school and is playing Rookie ball. Rookie ball is sort of like T-ball except that the coach pitches. They play for about an hour. Each inning every player gets an at-bat. There are no outs, although after each hit they are supposed to throw the ball to first before the hitter gets there. That almost never happens. The throws are wild, or they just don't bother to throw the ball to first at all. If the hitter misses more than 4 or 5 times they bust out the T so that the kid gets to hit the ball and the game can move on. Ryan doesn't have tons of power but he does hit the ball pretty well when the coach tosses it. Other parents have commented about his hitting stance. He looks picture perfect. Knees slightly bent, bat is in the perfect spot as he awaits the incoming pitch. His swing is pretty good too. But he often swings exactly the same and is not able to make adjustments to hit the ball if it is a little high or low. But if the ball is in a good spot he makes contact. He is quite serious about hitting. His fielding is ok for his age. He has fun and I practice with him when we can. But we don't stress about any of it. He has fun and I like to watch them all play.
