Hawaii 2021
Long time no post. Most everyone winds up on FaceBook or Instagram but I think we missed out by not maintaining this blog. So we hope to start it up again.
At the end of January this year we flew out to Oahu for a week as a family. Also going were Bridget's parents and her sister Tracy's family. We stayed at the Marriott Ko Olina resort. I had thought we would keep activities to a minimum. It did not work out that way though. I went out on a boat to go snorkelling. As a family we went on a zip line tour. There were surfing lessons. We had good food at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We vistited the USS Missouri. Bridget and Jack were able to go golfing. We did also spend a fair amount of time at the pool and the beach. I also should add that this was during finals week for Ryan and Jack. Colin and Maddie also had school. Because of the time difference they were online around 6 to 6:30 depending on the kid each morning.
I enjoyed being with our family. Our kids are good to be around. I hope as they go off on their own they will continue to visit with us and enjoy it at least half as much as we do as parents.

Maddie had the opportunity to cheer at the Beaverton High School football game on Friday. She has not ever done anything like this before. There was a clinic for a couple of hours before the game where every couple of girls were paired with a buddy who is a Beaverton cheerleader. Maddie LOVED it. She was disappointed this was just a once a year thing.

Ryan is in high school. Big freshman. Or maybe not so big...see the pictures below from last night's soccer game. he was certainly one of the smallest out there on either team. I doubt anyone is going to top him on lowest BMI.
Beaverton has 4 soccer teams. Varsity, JV, and two JV2 teams. He with most of the freshmen are on the lower of the JV2 teams. Bridget believes that all Freshmen and Sophomores were segregated on to the 2 JV2 teams and that upperclassmen comprise the JV and Varsity. Only 5 freshmen made it on to the upper JV2 team even.
Last night his team of mostly freshmen when up against a team of mostly Sophomores. Our boys didn't have anyone with the mass of their biggest 4 players. And Beaverton was shelled. It was ugly. Afterwards Ryan was really angry, about as angry as I have seen him. He finally opened up that he expected his team to at least try. Only he didn't really say it, he yelled it when we were in the car. Our boy is very competitive.
The team has 18 players. Ryan starts. He is never subbed. There are about 3 or 4 players that do not come out and he is one. We will see how he deals with this challenge. When they played a game last friday it was against a team of mostly Freshmen and they tied. So they are not horrible. They are just young and likely half of the players do not have as much experience as Ryan with strategy and so forth.
11 games to go. Below is a picture from the first game last week against Liberty HS.

Maddie the Pistol
Yesterday in the span of 10 minutes Maddie went from throwing legos to pulling Mckenna's hair to hiding Colin's shoes to jumping on the furniture and all with a big smile on her face. Sunday's at church are always an adventure. When Maddie gets bored she either takes whatever her brothers have (book, pen, etc.) or she tackles them in sacrament meeting. We have had several people tell us how entertaining she
is. She can hold her own!
is. She can hold her own!

Colin
Colin will at times wake up like our other boys at this age. Last night he was up for about two and a half hours. He was in a pretty good mood though for the most part. Sometimes he wanders or sneaks into our room and either wants to sleep with us or he wants to just check on us before going back to his bed.
Last night after he was up for a bit he came in our room and I guess saw that I was sleeping without covers on for the most part. He went into his room and grabbed his little polar bear and came back into ours to give it to me. He woke me up (again) and said "Daddy, you look cold so here is my bear"
And I took it and slept with it of course. Thank you, Colin.
